Raw and Wild Pili Nuts
In our October Lifebox you’ll find the incredible Raw & Wild who are masters of the nutritionally packed and delicious Pili Nut.
Raw & Wild wild harvest their nuts from Pili trees in the Bicol region in the Philippines.
Known as the ‘stress loving trees‘ due to their resilience to extreme weather conditions, Pili trees often have an abundance of fruits after typhoons and so are perfectly suited to this tropical, rainy region.
Similarly to a coconut, Pili fruits are dried in the sun before they are shelled! They are one tough nut to crack, so Raw & Wild employ the most skilled shell experts who use Bicolano machetes over a wooden board to break through their tough exterior. These experts are masters in precision, controlled strength and speed – a real art form!
Once shelled, Raw & Wild pre-sprout and rehydrate their Pili Nuts to preseve all the vital enzymes, minerals and nutrients. The activation process breaks down complex starch, neutralises the phytic acid found in all nuts and seeds and ignites the ‘life force‘ of the nut.
